Summer visitor

Welcome to my birdtography blog. I started this page as an outlet for my birdtography (bird photography): a place to write my thoughts about the birds I am seeing and photographing.

The weather forecast predicted rain this afternoon and the rest of the week, so I mowed the grass this morning. The yard had been parched, so it had been a few weeks since I had mowed my backyard. After mowing, I noticed that my mower had stirred up a lot of bug activity. I grabbed my camera and a glass of iced tea and thought I might find some flycatcher activity to photograph. I recently heard both the Eastern wood pewee and Eastern phoebe in my backyard.
Sure enough, the Eastern wood pewee did appear to feast on the bugs stirred up by my mower. As I was watching the pewee, another bird caught my eye. At first, I thought it was a white-breasted nuthatch, but as I watched closer and the bird came out into the light, I saw black and white stripes. It was a female Black and White Warbler. I had never seen this bird in my backyard in July before. What a backyard treat for a summer afternoon of birdtography.
